<p> As you gather with loved ones this holiday weekend, we invite you to reflect on the traditions passed down through your own family. Whether you spend the Fourth of July on the lake watching fireworks from a boat, or gathered in lawn chairs downtown, the essence of the holiday remains the same. Even if your surrounding look different this year, the true heart of the celebration lies in the people we hold dear and the simple comfort of sharing a meal together.
<p> Our hometown of New Prague shares this deep connection to tradition, especially when it comes to celebrating our freedom. While we might not all gather as a community in the same way this year, we can still look back and cherish the memories of past celebrations.
<p> To honor that shared history, we wanted to share a few glimpses of Independence Day celebrations from New Prague’s past. The first photo takes us back to 1883, showing a gathering of the town’s fire department downtown. The second, from 1900, captures a costumed marching band proudly assembled in front of St. Wenceslaus Church.
<p> Times change, styles evolve, and generations move forward, but foundational tradition of celebrating Independence Day with family and friends remain constant. The team at K.A. Witt Construction will be taking time to enjoy our own families this weekend, while looking forward to the next time we can all celebrate together as a community.
